Technical Expert Panels

technical expert panel (TEP) is a group of stakeholders and experts who provide input on the development, selection, and maintenance of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) measures. The TEP is an important step in the measure development or reevaluation process to ensure transparency.

Recognized experts in the relevant fields including clinicians, statisticians, quality improvement experts, methodologists, and pertinent measure developers provide input based on their personal experience and training. The TEP members are chosen to represent a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds.

CMS Questions & Answers Tool

Please feel free to utilize the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital questions and answers (Q&A) tool. This tool is designed to provide the hospital community with feedback to questions related to the Hospital Outpatient or Inpatient Quality Data Reporting Program.

The Q & A tool provides users with the option of submitting questions to the respective Support Contractor for a personal response or conduct a search for an answer from an expansive collection of previously answered questions. 


Data Abstraction Training Resources

Mock medical records (fictitious charts) have been developed for use by hospitals and Medicare Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) in training data abstractors. Staff can use the gold standard records to practice abstracting data for submission to the QIO Clinical Warehouse. Three charts are provided for each clinical topic. More...


VTE Toolkit

The venous thromboembolism (VTE) Toolkit provides a summary of the key concepts in VTE and anticoagulant management. The Toolkit has been designed to be a practical overview for health professionals who care for patients with or at risk for VTE. The content reflects current, evidence-based knowledge in the area of VTE.

Included in the toolkit are 12 PowerPoint presentations covering a range of concepts and topics are available for download.
