Outcome-Based Quality Improvement

The key component of the Home Health Quality Initiative is the Outcome Based Quality Improvement System (OBQI), a rigorously designed, repeatedly validated quality improvement program that positively impacts the health outcomes of home health care patients. OBQI is a systematic approach home health agencies can implement and follow to continuously improve the quality of care they provide. Under the OBQI process, quality is measured against the ultimate yardstick - patient outcomes.  The Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) data set was designed to provide a way to measure both outcomes and patient risk factors

The standardized approach to quality improvement based on OASIS data enables home health agencies, for the first time, to use a data-driven set of clinical and functional outcome measures to advance their quality improvement activities.
