Medicare Preventive Services Coverage

Free preventive care for seniors went into effect Jan. 1, 2011. Medicare covers 100 percent of the cost of screenings for some cancers as well as a free yearly physical exam and other tests to help prevent disease.

Procedures now 100 percent covered by Medicare:
Mammogram
Colonoscopy
Bone mass measurement
Hepatitis B shot
Medical nutrition therapy services
Pap test and pelvic exam
Annual wellness exam
Smoking cessation counseling sessions
