Hand Hygiene

Hand Hygiene has long been considered the foundation of reducing Healthcare Associated Infections. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Institutes for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) as well as many other organizations have worked to provide multiple resources to create a culture of patient safety that promotes and can sustain 100% hand hygiene compliance.  The Guideline for Hand Hygiene in Health-Care Settings provides specific recommendations to promote improved hand-hygiene practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and personnel in health-care settings.

This section provides healthcare workers with a variety of resources including guidelines for providers, patient empowerment materials, the latest technological advances in hand hygiene adherence measurement, frequently asked questions, and links to promotional and educational tools published by the WHO, universities, and health departments.

Love the Glove

The Love the Glove campaign was a new initiative created by OFMQ, designed to meet the needs of facilities that continued to have unacceptable incidents of HAIs despite compliance with interventions known to reduce transmission.  Strict glove use reduces the transmission of many HAIs include clostridium difficile which can only be transmitted via the fecal-oral route.
