The Doctor's Office Quality - Information Technology (DOQ IT) program is a national initiative promoting the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and Health Information Technology (HIT) in small and medium-sized physician offices. Through the DOQ-IT program, Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality is assisting physicians across Oklahoma implement technology to improve efficiency, quality of care and patient safety. HIT gives physicians better access to patient information, decision support and reference data, as well as improves patient-clinician communications and optimizes billing and reimbursement. Widespread adoption of HIT has the potential to produce substantial savings to Medicare.
OFMQ’s information technology consultants help practices implement HIT solutions. We supply expertise to analyze practice needs, redesign systems and assist with updating or streamlining clinical and administrative processes. DOQ-IT includes components focused on improving care for Medicare beneficiaries in the areas of diabetes, heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension and preventive care.
Advantages of HIT:
Eliminates paper charts - Electronic records are more convenient and access to information can be quick and easy.
Enables e-prescribing – Electronic systems handle prescription refills easily and efficiently and the software can also alert the physician to drug interactions.
Increases efficiencies - Data goes immediately into the chart, and visits are properly documented, making it easier to resolve insurance questions.
Improves preventive care - Most systems remind physicians of out-of-date health maintenance services such as routine tests and vaccinations.
Ties to economic incentive - With inevitable pay for performance initiatives, Oklahoma physicians who implement an EHR now will be ahead of the curve with the latest technology.
