Changing Nursing Home Culture

Culture change in nursing homes is a global way of thinking about the care provided to nursing home residents and helps to create a warm and friendly world where daily life can be pleasant and meaningful. Each nursing home may approach culture change in different ways, or may choose to combine theories from a variety of culture change models, however it is the underlying principles of the organization that are most important and should be used to help guide the facility on its culture change journey. Many culture change programs available focus on a set of key principles that include an emphasis on respect, empowerment, choice, relationships, and building a sense of community.
